More than two-dozen Eukanuba and Iams products recalled due to Salmonella

August 21, 2013

The veterinary staff at West Kendall Animal Hospital would like you to be aware of recent recalled products. Lots of Proctor and Gamble’s (P & G) Eukanuba and Iams dry dog and cat foods have been voluntarily recalled due to potential Salmonella contamination. According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) P & G’s routine testing determined that some products made during a 10-day time frame at a specific manufacturing site should be pulled from the market as a precautionary measure.
The affected products—29 varieties—were distributed to select retailers across the United States. No other dry dog food, dry cat food, dog or cat canned wet food, biscuits/treats or supplements are affected by this announcement. No Salmonella-related illnesses have been reported to date in association with these product lots. P & G is asking consumers who purchased a recalled product to stop use and discard it. Veterinarians and pet owners can contact P & G toll-free at 800-208-0172 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. EST, Monday through Friday, or via its website at http://www.iams.com or http://www.eukanuba.com. Go to fda.gov for a full list of recalled products. Source DVM magazine.
